About the project
The customer is the owner of a medical center in Berlin, Germany. After the COVID-19 outbreak, he needed a solution for remote patient communication to reduce the number of offline visits. At the same time, it allows doctors to track each patient’s health data and communicate with the laboratory.
For its purposes, the customer decided to use the comjoodoc telemedicine application, popular in the German region, which includes:
- Two mobile apps : one for patients and one for medical professionals, developed on React Native.
- A web application built on Node JS and Typescript. The web application also leverages Doker as the application container technology and Kubernetes for automated deployment and management.
Unfortunately, the platform failed to meet their business goals due to lack of functionality. Therefore, they hired us to create the comjoodoc telemedicine application.
Customer challenges
When creating their telemedicine platform, they wanted to achieve three goals:
Challenge 1. Change the user interface design
We needed to redesign the screens of both the patient and doctor applications of comjoodoc EASY. It needs to be consistent with the new brand.
Challenge 2. Add advanced functionality
We need to migrate and upgrade comjoodoc’s existing features into the live chat and main menu. Medical professionals can simply use them to provide remote treatment to patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Challenge 3. Make the platform compliant with legal regulations
Because the platforms store sensitive patient data, we need to make them compliant with legal data security regulations. Include:
- – German national regulations
- – BSI IT basics
- – EU-DSGVO/GDPR
- – EU healthcare regulations
- – HIPAA regulations
Our solution
To meet our customers’ goals, we have completed the following tasks:
New and upgraded design
We’ve slightly redesigned the patient and doctor app interface by:
- Updated app themes, icons, and splash screens
- New layout design for both interfaces
- Add customer information to the Terms and Conditions section
- Create a new splash screen for the app
In addition to the UI changes, we’ve also made a number of improvements:
- Configure Google services for app analytics
- Change the Data Base database package
- Improve application features to meet business needs
- Perform code refactoring by refactoring the current platform’s code without changing its external behavior to make the code more efficient and maintainable
Integrate service functions during the COVID-19 pandemic
We’ve improved the functionality of both our patient and physician mobile apps by:
- Push notification center integration via the Firebase development platform
- Increase your chat capabilities by adding image and file upload buttons
- Integrate prescriptions and lab test results as structured data from physician to lab
- Add patient management features to the doctor’s app. Medical professionals can monitor patient conditions based on push notifications on the app
- Add on-premises video conferencing as a custom integration of the ITC cloud video service
- Activate scheduling of doctor’s appointments, medications, exercise reminders, and daily schedules for patients
- Activate online payments with PayPal payment gateway
Data security meets legal regulations
Both the platform and the app are classified as CE Class IIa medical devices that store and process sensitive healthcare information.
We have protected data from unauthorized third party access by:
- Use SSL data encryption
- Add an encrypted communication layer (SSL) to your customer’s storage
- Add end-to-end encryption to online chat and video conferencing
- Organize data transmission according to FHIR HL7 standards

After working with us, the customer received a telemedicine support application with advanced features that took us two months that benefited both types of users:

- Patients can receive high-quality medical services in the comfort of their homes, book doctor appointments, attend medical meetings online, receive medication receipts and treatment plans. treat.
