Story

Our appearance has a significant impact on how we feel about ourselves, our confidence and our actions. At the same time, thinning hair is a widespread problem, affecting up to 50% of men and women, causing them to have low self-esteem. Nioxin, a sub-brand of Coty Inc, effectively solves the problem of thinning hair by applying their 25 years of heritage and dedicated research.

It all started when Romolo Ganzerli, Director of Global Digital Marketing at Coty Inc., emailed us.

“  Hello APP Solutions, 

I’m looking for a team that will develop a consultation web and mobile app for hairstylists and people with hair thinning concerns so that everyone can receive more tailored treatment with Nioxin products. 

Currently, I am in Geneva, Switzerland, but I may go to Kyiv to discuss our project in more detail. “

When Romolo arrived at our office, we started focusing on project goals and objectives and shaping the project vision.

Consulting How does Nioxin work?

Nioxin, one of Coty Inc’s brands, is the market leader in professional salon products in more than 40 countries around the world. Nioxin Consulting mobile application aims to help professional stylists suggest to customers the right hair care that makes their customers’ hair thicker and fuller looking without side effects so that they can develop confidence.

To learn about the customer’s hair care needs, the app analyzes the customer’s scalp and identifies three signs of hair thinning (Skin, Density, and Diameter), each with its own scanning technologies. inspired by innovative skin care to address scalp and hair needs, while delivering thicker, fuller hair. hair.

The app also includes quick links to NIOXIN’s market-specific websites and a salon finder.

Customer’s request

The customer had a design for his application and wanted us to do the following:

• Create a web plugin and mobile app for both iOS and Android for professional stylists and their clients with thinning hair
• Integrates scalp and hair analysis tools and recommends personalized treatment programs depending on the customer’s hair condition
• Set up logic throughout the mobile app and web plugin backend to provide quality consulting testing

Project Goals and Objectives 

Our main goal for Nioxin Consulting app is to recommend suitable products to customers and improve their hair condition. We needed to develop an intuitive mobile app and web plugin for salon professionals, powered by a product recommendation algorithm that could not only be used in salons but also at home .

Our challenge

Comprehensive architecture  . The main problem is setting up the logic that connects two mobile applications on different platforms to the server. Additionally, we also need to build a web plugin backend that will provide relevant product recommendations.

Tight deadlines  . At the beginning of the project, our main priority was to build the product’s architecture from the ground up. In this way, we streamlined the project’s production process to meet deadlines.

How did we do it?

The customer came to us with a ready-made UI/UX design for all the app screens and very detailed technical documentation, so he asked us to do the coding part.

For this project, we applied the Scrum methodology because the project had specific tasks to accomplish, as well as an estimated time and budget.

• We start project development by estimating the time that developers will require for one or another feature. We then break down all the elements and evaluate the time in two-week iterations, during which we will deploy the project’s functionality.
• At the end of each iteration, we ran a demonstration session to show customers our progress and get timely feedback. Our team also has to send weekly reports to customers with a list of completed tasks.
• After evaluating the project requirements, our team worked on building the appropriate project architecture first, followed by developing the mobile apps and web plugins, along with the backend of the project.
• After we implemented all the functionalities for the first app release, we performed a final demo with customers, received feedback, and implemented the necessary changes.
• Thanks to detailed documentation, clear customer requirements, and skillful mobile developers, we were able to complete the project on time.
• Development started around mid-May and the first project was released on August 1, so it took us less than three months from start to finish.

Cool features we’ve implemented

customer information

The application allows saving customer details in personal profiles, defining hair characteristics and adding DERMA and DENSITY photos. This way, hairdressers can create a seamless experience in the salon and have instant access to all client profiles registered with their salon.

Beauty salon management

Salon chain owners track employee performance and customers’ hair improvements overtime through built-in statistics. Whether it is one location or multiple locations, salon owners have access to statistics on how their staff performs in regards to recommending Nioxin hair care products.

Consulting tools

Nioxin’s mobile apps, as well as a web plugin, include test-based recommendations of Nioxin hair care products that best suit a given customer’s hair type. To determine the customer’s hair condition, the app asks a short questionnaire and saves the answers so the customer can track progress.

Result

Nioxin Consulting was a fun and challenging project to create. It required a lot of thinking and a proactive approach that, in the end, helped meet deadlines without compromising on quality. Now we’re rolling out more features and adding multilingual capabilities to make the app available to new markets.
